Wildlife Box Servicing

Servicing wildlife boxes is a must for any large user such as councils and wildlife parks.

Three different options are provided to meet the needs of varying budgets. These options apply on anticipated wildlife boxes (‘WB’), either currently installed or to be installed across the council or wildlife zone.

Budget Option

Boxes are serviced annually in Spring. This involves:

  • Ensuring the attachment system is secure, so people and wildlife are safe;
  • Ensuring there is limited impact on the tree;
  • Usage by wildlife species is assessed, as is the condition of the box;
  • WB is cleaned out and new bedding material is added; and
  • A basic three (3) page report is provided which highlights activities performed, faunal usage and condition of the WBs themselves.
Choose the Budget Option if:

You require a simple report on the WB and the assets to remain fit for purpose and minimise possible risk to people, wildlife or the associated trees.

Standard Option

Wildlife Boxes are serviced annually in Autumn, as per above. In addition, the WBs are surveyed during the Spring breeding period. For both servicing and survey periods, each box is:

  • Photographed externally, with a date/time a record of activity;
  • Signs of use/habitation are recorded;
  • Internal photographs of traces or wildlife taken;
  • Associated wildlife species in area are recorded; and
  • Details are recorded electronically for each box.
Choose the Standard Option if:

Within your councils, elected members and senior executives require detailed information about a given project. The standard report covers all the questions senior staffs are likely to ask. If further information is required, this can be provided. The Standard Option also provides a more complete picture of the wildlife activities across the year.

The standard report is more in-depth and includes:

  • WB data is reviewed and cross-checked;
  • Data is analysed to determine numbers/percentage of WBs used, success by park and species type, year-on-year comparisons;
  • Detailed spread-sheet of WB location, height and orientation data provided (including GPS coordinates);
  • Extensive photographic evidence of activities and observations;
  • Additional photographic appendices of other noteworthy records; and
  • Google Maps access to site data, either electronic or hard copy provided.

Additional activities such as bee removal or box replacement are provided/quoted, on an “as needs” basis.

Premium Option

Includes all points listed within the Budget and Standard options, plus a form of insurance.

Wildlife Boxes can be damaged by fauna species, particularly by large parrots and possums. Additionally, feral honeybees may take over well-constructed WBs. Damaged or compromised boxes account for 3-15% of boxes annually.

The Premium Option allows for up to 10% of the WBs to be removed and replaced due to bee infection, wildlife damage or vandalism. If a greater number of boxes are affected, the first 10% will be covered and quotes will be provided for the remainder.

Choose the Premium Option if:

You need a set and forget solution. With an in-depth report, lots of great photos for you to display how you wish, plus automatic replacement, bee removal and more.
